It's a great update for the old covers that scream, "I'm a classic! I'm boring!". Maybe this will get more people reading... or pretending to read just to look smart. Another super hot day in Hong Kong calls for another denim shorts outfit. Are you sick of it yet? I'm not! hahaha!

Honestly, Timberlands are so. much. better. than doc martens. No break in time necessary, super comfy, and... WATERPROOF! I haven't worn them out in heavy rain yet, so we'll have to wait and see how that works out.

The best part of today was walking around Central and taking photos with my sister's new Lubitel. It takes quite a bit of patience due to it's being a fully manual film camera though...

Uh oh. It looks like someone has been very lazy at updating. So what have I been doing? Well, the answer is... nothing. Some say that summer before university/college is always the best, and it is true. No SAT prep, no university research, no trying to get ahead by reading next year's textbook... There. I admit it, I am a true nerd at heart. I normally wear contacts, but if I'm feeling lazy or uh, nerding out, I wear my glasses.

I decided to go for something different, so instead of the usual wire frames, I went for the big, thick, plastic frames this time. My dad says I look like 小雲 from this cartoon I used to watch when I was little... SIGH

Apologies for not updating for so long, but graduating from high school apparently takes an entire week! I don't have too many blog appropriate photos from prom, commencement etc, but I did take a photo of my prom dress. It's from Betsey Johnson's prom themed collection, and I think it was perfect for my personality. I'm never really one to get sentimental, so I won't get into the whole omg-I-can't-beleive-I'm-graduating speech. Socks in Sandals

When I was in the sixth grade, I had a teacher that absolutely everyone hated. He was mean, rude, and... wore socks in sandals everyday. I decided to give the socks + sandals combination a try today, and it actually turned out ok :D

It's strange out a few years ago, this would have been pretty much unacceptable... Well, I suppose the socks and sandals combination is fine, so long as the socks are not grey and wooly and the sandals are not from Teva! XD

The socks actually have prints of little dices on it... it's not too clear in this photo though you just might see it if you squint real hard haha

Today was honestly not the best of all schooldays. I started the day by writing and exam, then rushed off to finish editing the school yearbook afterschool, followed by another hour of band rehearsal. Luckily, when I got home, I found that my dress from Lullie vintage had arrived, and my mood meter did an entire 180! The dress is circa 1980's... I love dresses from the 80's :)

So so so sorry for not replying to comments for the last few days... school has been getting insanely busy as we're getting close to the final exams! I will reply ASAP... promise!

Happy Mother's Day!

My mom is probably the person who has had the most influence over me. If there's anyone to blame for my obsession with fashion, it's her. In fact, I used to have absolutely no interest in fashion... until she opened a fashion boutique. That's when I really started to appreciate clothes. My interest in DIY jewelry is also her fault XD She used make lots and lots of jewelry using silver wires and semi-precious stones, and then sold them through my uncle's jewelry business. Honestly, she is one the most inspirational and talented people I know... she now works as a yoga instructor! I'm really glad to have her as my mom... and not just because she has an awesome closet I can steal things from! :D

Apologies for the simple outfit today... I had about 10 minutes to get dressed! I got this dress in a small boutique years ago, and I love the blue floral print on it... looks a little like wallpaper, but I still love it.

The grey cardigan is another article of clothing I stole, I mean 'borrowed', from my mom. :D

The thing with dresses that have an empire waist is that I have to stand up straight at all times to avoid looking preggers... or at least that's what my mom told me.

I finally got shoes for prom today... and it was such a bargain! I got this pair of Nina heels with a matching clutch for about US$45 :) haha I feel so proud of myself... it's that stupid feeling you get when you find a really great deal XD

Dolce & Gabanna

Fact: I am a horrible gardener. I love flowers, but everything I have ever tried growing, with my beloved cactus as the only exception, has died within two weeks. As a result, all the flowers I have at home are made of either paper or plastic. So imagine how delighted I was when I saw this Dolce & Gabanna dress! I love the use of flower appliques, not just floral patterns in dresses. My dad said it looks ridiculous, but I love it. :)

Another day, another discovery! I found this sweater/jacket in my closet today... probably haven't seen it for about a year. My outfit was lacking some color, so it was perfect. I love that it has a little hood at the back too, which gives it a laid back feel. The necklace is the one from the DIY... I'm very glad that it didn't fall apart :D I have to admit, I was really afraid it would, as it was my first ribbon necklace!

As you can see in the this photo, I was having a bit of an iD moment...

I paired the dress and sweater with my floral dr. martens, which I love very much. I'm kinda sad that the floral pattern is starting to fade :( I really have to take better care of my shoes! haha

Look-a Like-a Hippie

Went out for a very casual dinner tonight, so I chose a casual, comfy outfit to match! The title 'Look-a Like-a Hippie' was inspired by Miss Swan of MADtv... if you haven't seen it, go on youtube and see it now! hilarious!

Anyhow, I found this blouse while cleaning out my closet today, and decided to wear it. Those pants are probably the strangest looking pair that I own, but I think the shade and the loose shape of it went perfectly with the blouse. Of course, being me, I just had to throw in something whimsy... and that's where my Betsey Johnson bag came in! It's another one of my overworked leather bags... it goes with absolutely everything!

The title explains exactly how I feel at the moment... I saw an Alexander Wang dress on sale at outnet.com and it was absolutely perfect - perfect size, perfect cut, and 60% off. But of course, being 17, I'm not allowed to make purchases like this without permission (unless I want my credit card to be destroyed)... my parents came back late from work today of all days, and now it's sold out :(

On the other hand, this pair of Anna Sui wedges are still in stock and they still have my size! That's the upside to having big feet... they always have your size at outlets! :D

So sorry for this very random post... haha I PROMISE I will have a good, proper post tomorrow!

Shut up, friendship bracelets are COOL

I first attempted to make my own jewelry when I was 8. There was some school carnival over the weekend and I had won this book on how to make friendship bracelets. So, mainly out of boredom, I started making friendship bracelets! I then became obsessed with making them... to the point where I had so many that I started selling them to girls at school XD.

Friendship bracelets are really easy to make and they are perfect for summer... soo I found some thread and buttons, and got started! This is one of the easiest types of friendship bracelets to make, and since I was a bit rusty, I chose to make this.

First, tie a knot tightly at the top. This will be the beginning of the bracelet. Afterwards, braid it for about 6cm, and secure with another knot.

This is where the fun part begins! Take one string, and wrap it around the other two in a knot, as shown below in two steps.

As you repeat this step, a pretty spiral should start to form around the bracelet. I changed the color every 1cm, but how frequently you change the color is up to you.

To make it more interesting, I strung a few buttons through it and voila, it's complete!

... and if anyone asks me why I'm wearing a friendship bracelet at this age, I'll say, "Shut up, friendship bracelets are COOL!" hahaa

What separates something from being just OK and spectacular? It's all in the details! It rained again today, and it was freezing, so I thought it would be a good excuse to wear a coat... I found this coat about half a year ago in the depths of my mother's closet, and I'm glad I did! The dress, I found in a small shop in Central. I got a huge discount on it due to a slight stain, which came out pretty easily when I got back home!

The thing I love the most about this coat (other than the awesome color) is the beads. Details like that are always fun :)

I love the bow and the patterns on the dress... it gives it a nice texture without being too busy.

... I honestly have no idea what I was doing when this picture was taken. haha!

It was probably pretty hard to see in the other photos due to the dark color, but the shoes I wore had an angular heel and a HUGE buckle... never fails to make people look!

A Little Dose of Random Never Hurts

Today was just one of those days where I opened up my closet and thought, I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR!, despite the fact that my closet was overflowing with clothes. So, I went straight to my mom's closet to find something... I ended up borrowing this white dress she bought a while ago. I love the texture of the fabric (theres a closeup on it below) because it's so unique!

I didn't want to look too ladylike so I threw on a pair of Anna Sui socks and studded flats for some irony. When I asked my best friend what he thought, he said, "It doesn't match." But since when did things have to match anyways? NYLON philosophy! haha!

The Blumarine bag makes another appearance!

This is one of my favorite tunics ever... its so versatile! We had free dress day at school, so I decided to go for something more casual looking. As you can see, I still couldn't resist wearing something with a big, fat bow on it! :D I haven't worn these yellow sandals in about 2 years, so I decided that it was time to take them out again, seeing that I needed to add some color to the outfit anyways...

And to prove my point of its versatility... It's really easy to wear for an evening look too... just wear some tights and throw on a pair of metallic shoes! I love this pair of blue metallic flats. They go with everything and are super comfortable :)

Once upon a time (actually it's more like about half a year ago), I had my mind set on going to New York to study photography. I had my portfolio ready, I worked as a photographer's assistant over the summer, and I had my top college choices all laid out... but then when my parents found out that it would cost as much as med school, they told me it would be a 'bad investment'. So that was the end of my dream to become a fashion photographer, and I will be going off to study medicine after the summer.

I took these photos a few months ago, with my sister as the model... hoping to get some feedback :) ... more to come!

DIY Necklace

Although I love my necklaces, earrings, and bracelets etc, I've never exactly been one to spend alot of money on accessories. Since DIY style necklaces seem to be pretty popular this season, with designers selling them for outrageous prices (just take a look at the necklaces section at net-a-porter.com and you'll see what I mean), I decided to make my own!

For this project, I used two ribbons for the body of the necklace - one navy and the other a sheer golden texture. I also had some ribbon-wrapped beads, eyelets, and a black velvet ribbon.

I started by stringing the beads through the navy and gold ribbon, leaving spaces in between.

I then decided that the necklace was a little too plain for my liking, sooo I found some strings of rhinestones that were removed from one of my mom's dresses (thank god for that!) and strung them into the necklace! The strings were only placed in segments, so I had to use some glue to keep it in place.

Here comes the trickier bit... I like this part because I get to use a hammer XD Put an eyelet through the navy and gold ribbon. The tools for putting in eyelets came with the eyelets I bought... except I got so excited with the hammer I kinda smashed its sides a bit >< haha I sound so violent..

The last bit was to tie the black velvet ribbon around the eyelet...

Tada!

Thinking that today would be another bright, sunny day, I put on my favorite trapeze dress and wedges to go to the park. As soon as I got there, it started to rain. :( Tragic, I know.

The headpiece was basically a thin, plastic headband. I found a piece of ribbon at home and just tied it on. This necklace is one of my favorite pieces of jewelry... its chunky and goes with everything!

Close up on the shoes... these are my favorite summer shoes. Very comfortable and makes me look like I have long long legs XD

So many favorite items in one outfit, and yet the rain had to ruin all the fun :( Ah well, better luck next time

In the world of Chocolate Rain

So... Where in the world would one find such pretty little chairs? Why, in the world of Chocolate Rain, of course! Chocolate Rain had an art exhibition in Times Square. We were just passing by, but we just had to stop by to take pictures!

I wore a Bread and Butter tunic with black leggings, Melissa shoes, and Blumarine bag. The shoes are, like all other Melissa shoes, made out of plastic. They're surprisingly comfortable though, for a plastic shoe.

This is my favorite part of the tunic... sequined straps! Too bad my hair covers it most of the time...><

Accomplishment of the day!

ok I know this is kind of lame but...6 hours in 4 inchers, and my feet aren't dead. Amazing. And I was actually walking around for the entire 6 hours! I honestly don't know what I was thinking though, when I picked these shoes out to go... lunching and grocery shopping. Yes, you read it right - grocery shopping. So how does one spend 6 hours lunching and grocery shopping? Well, it's possible when I go with the pickiest eater there ever was (aka my sister).

I love this Betseyville clutch, though it does get a little annoying to have to hold it all the time... especially when I have to go to the washroom! They have those bag hangers, but that's not very helpful when you're using a clutch! ><

I found these shorts at FCUK during one of their insane end-of-season sales. It was my ultimate wardrobe stable for about 6 months!

Here's another shot of my shoes. They're the only pair of studded shoes I have... well well, looks like I just found myself an excuse to go shoe shopping! hahha

I have to go make dinner now... let's hope it turns out edible

Day out at Mong Kok today! I haven't gone there in a while so it was good to go walk around the ladies market etc etc... Langham Place has some pretty good places for food! I had a seafood rice burger, then a coffee cheesecake! Main St Cafe has like, 9 different types of cheesecake... and the cheesecake tasted amazing. I was actually sad when I finished it haha!

Some more shots of the outfit and some details... I love that its getting warmer - no more tights that won't stop slipping! XD

I borrowed the Burberry bag from my sister... I'm obsessed with small bags right now :D

It's like, 2 AM right now... so much for my plans for sleeping early! Well, I better go sleep now if I don't want eyebags!

Japan!

As I mentioned in the last post, I travelled to Japan over the last few days! The food was amazing... especially the seafood. yummm! Also, I love how the Japanese girls style themselves. They wear whatever they want and can really make a statement with their outfits. What's best? No one stares at you like you're a complete psycho... even if you wear a huge pink skirt with clogs (yes, I did see that!) So here are some photos! I'm only putting the absolute highlights so not to bore you...

We stayed in this adorable hotel in Tokyo the first night. Everything was so miniature and dollhouse-like! We went to DisneySea the next day and the Mermaid Lagoon was so pretty!

Japan has some very interesting foods... and here, I present Strawberry Popcorn! they tasted surprisingly good for pink popcorn :D

Japan has some awesome street food vendors... including this one! Its basically a van turned into a nice stand selling Japanese hot buns with cinnamon on top! mmm

This is the famous fish cakes they sell in Sendai... they're really chewy, like fishballs

I think those were glutinous rice balls with sauce on top... well, let's be honest, I didn't know half of what I was eating when I tried out the Japanese street food >< Anyhow, they were all delicious :)

There was a kimono set at one of the hotels so me and my sister had some kimono silliness.. haha!

For some reason, we found the green telephone very amusing too...

We also went strawberry picking. The strawberries in Japan are really round and tiny and super super sweet!

Of course, a trip to Japan is not complete without sushi! The sushi and sashimi is amazing. utterly. amazing! and the tuna just melts in your mouth :D

Green tea ice cream was also really delicious.. :)

Sorry about this turning into a food blog but the food was really the highlight of the trip! Well, I did manage to get a new Coach bag while I while I was there :)

A day out at Central called for another pretty dress! This dress is from Bread and Butter, and I'm carrying my Chanel 2.55 again. I think I have a serious case of babyface in that photo... and the side ponytail doesn't help either ><

Me and my sister went around to Soho for a bit of lunch at a nice little restaurant decked out in victorian inspired modern decor. In fact, we decided to eat there purely based on the fact that it had amazing decor. haha! The food was still really good though... I had salad, then clams with pasta in white wine... yummm

We walked about in Central for a bit after lunch... This is Pottinger Street, one of the most famous streets in HK. They mainly sell costumes here. Haha...pretty random, no? But they do have some brilliant graffiti and street art here. Still, I was probably more concerned about how to walk down the street without tripping. And yes, it IS as steep as it looks in the picture!

These are one of my favorite pair of heels. I love the bow at the back and how it gives a nice whimsical touch to any outfit. Once, my best friend was trying to make a point to me that I had too many pairs of shoes, and said, "I'll bet you never wear those heels with the bows on the back!" WRONG!

Dylan's Candy Bar opened up a temporary pop-up store at onPeddar today! I've never been to Dylan's Candy Bar in New York, so naturally I HAD to go. I love the humongous lollipops... it gives the whole place such a fun feeling, and makes it feel like a candy wonderland :D I think I'm gonna cry when this place closes in three weeks... :(

We bought some candy there to satisfy our sweet tooth, and also for a good cause, because all proceeds go to the Children's Cancer Foundation! I got a whole bunch of tootsie rolls... I'm completely addicted to them! I also love old fashioned candy... anything to do with caramel, taffy, toffee will do. I'm salivating just thinking about it. haha!

haha you can see the joy in my face from eating a lollipop... I guess I'm really a child at heart!

DIY Headband

This is my first DIY project in a long long time. Yes, I still hate the term DIY, but I don't really know how else to describe the project I'm doing. Here's a fact: I have a huge head. It's so huge that I get headaches from most headbands... except for the plain ones they sell at craft stores. The problem is that I love headbands, so the solution was to make my own!

This is my collection of decorative flowers and ribbons... some are from the craft store, some are just things that I've collected from random sources over the years.

I started by just wrapping the headband with a yellow ribbon... yellow is my new favorite color! :D it's so bright and happy

Then I used a thick, purple grosgrain ribbon to make a bow, sewing it on with a light yellow thread... only because I didn't have pastel purple. haha

Then I added a textured button on top to make it a little more interesting...

Then I added purple trimming to the inside for a finishing touch...

...Viola! a pretty headband that won't give me headaches! :)

Day out at Disney Hotel

It was a public holiday yesterday, so my dad had a day off. He then decided that going to the Disney hotel for lunch would be the best way to spend time, so off we went! As ungrateful as it sounds, I am really sick of the HK Disneyland. Well, at least the dessert was good.

My dad took along his new DSLR camera, so I had to make sure I was wearing something decent. :D another excuse for me to wear a dress!

I only realized that I had this belt in my closet a few days ago... it probably came with a dress or something... nevertheless, its pretty and adds a nice whimsical touch to any outfit.

You can't see it properly in the photos, but I'm actually wearing patterned tights I got at the Wanchai ladies market... the one in the blue tights is me, and the only with the pink shoes is my sister.

I apologize for the boring black heels but since I knew we would be walking around for ages, I just couldn't risk it >< My sister on the other hand, wore her brilliant pink suede heels, paired with Anna Sui socks. They look so bright next to the green grass! haha you can see the heel sinking into the grass

This bag is probably the most treasured item I have in my closet... the Chanel 2.55! No, I am not some spoiled brat... I actually earned the money from tutoring kids to buy this! I only have one good shot of it from today, but I'm sure there'll be lots of other posts with it.

This look's a little unusual for me, but I had to dress a little more casual today to fit in while hanging out with people from school. We all need to conform sometimes when we're in high school! You never want to stick out too much when hanging with a strictly hoodie + sneakers crowd.

Here I'm wearing a navy blue leather jacket from Kate Moss Topshop, the very same one I wore here, a Zara top, Jill Scott bag and.... my lovely doc martens!

They're so pretty! I always knew that if I wanted to get Doc Martens, they HAD to have floral prints on it. Why? Because I like girly things! haha

Omg, I am so jealous of people that have access to Topshop. They have the best high street shoes and clothes ever. In HK we only have Zara and H&M!!! Zara has pretty good quality, nice clothes, but H&M just totally lacks in quality.

The new Fendi booties are so adorable! Ok, maybe adorable isn't quite the right word here, but I still think they're absolutely stunning. I love how they look like heels but really aren't... it's that little element of surprise that I like. It also doesn't hurt that it comes in so many colors and textures, so there's something for everyone. Personally I like the baby blue suede ones.

Had some awesome hotcakes for breakfast today! I love them drizzled with maple syrup and bananas... as one can easily see.

Ingredients:

2 cups self-raising flour

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

2 eggs

1 cup milk

1/3 cup sugar

Mix it all together, leave it in the fridge overnight, and then make them like pancakes in the morning. Afterwards... drench in maple syrup!!! yum.

Lately, I've been wearing the color blue alot. I used to hate it because I thought it was a boring color, but then I realized that it matches absolutely everything! So now, blue is my lazy dressing color. haha!

This is what I wore out to grocery shopping today. The leather jacket is actually a dark navy, and it goes with pretty much everything. I got it in the UK 2 months ago for £50. That's the only reason my parents would let me get it.

Yes, I'm overdressing. again. But if I don't overdress, all my dresses will just sit in my closet. This dress I got in the Philippines around 2 years ago, and it's my first time wearing it! hahaha

Yes, it does sound a bit ridiculous to practical people I suppose, but then I obviously am not a practical person... I wore 3 inch booties to the supermarket. >< WELL, in my defence, they're the most comfortable pair of heels I own... as insane as it sounds.

If you're wondering what the book behind the shoe is, it's my biology textbook. Also, the black box on my bed is an oboe. I'm such a nerd.
